Here’s an invitation to you, our listeners and supporters of Crowded House, to get deeper into how we make music, to feel more connected to the band and how we operate, and form a community that we can be a meaningful part of. The space is called Private Universe.
I suppose it’s a reaction to the impersonal nature and transitory feeling of social media, the noise that gets curated by algorithms. We aim to have a direct line to you, with fresh and exclusive music and video on Private Universe as well as regular communication from us.
We have just been rehearsing at the beach, jamming and bringing new songs to life. We’re just as fascinated as ever with the idea of being a band. Music Is Magic… come and join us if you will.

“I was absolutely enchanted and inspired by Mental Notes as a 17 year old. It made me believe anything was possible. 50 years later, it sounds as unique and timeless as it did then. Here’s my version of one of my favourite songs on it, written by Philip Judd, Time For A Change.”

From Tami Neilson: “I wish I could time travel and play this song for past versions of myself.
“The teenager sleeping on the floor on a mattress after her family band had lost everything. She got a job at the makeup counter of a local pharmacy. Her small paycheque supported all five of them for a while. ‘Fall at Your Feet’ by Crowded House played multiple times a day through the pharmacy speakers. She sang the harmony quietly, feeling defeated and wondering if she’d ever be in music again.
“The 27-year-old who sat in the audience with her brother Jay in the darkness of Toronto’s Massey Hall, listening to Neil Finn and his brother Tim sing ‘Disembodied Voices,’ a song about siblings. She grabbed Jay’s hand while they both cried, knowing she was moving across the world to New Zealand in just a few weeks.
“Two decades later, I walked through the doors of the Ryman Auditorium to fulfill a lifelong dream of performing on that stage for the first time. Neil had invited me to open for Crowded House —the Kiwis invading Nashville! We’re working on a definitive documentary about the band past and future, and are searching for unique, unseen journalist or fan recorded material—the kind of audio footage that shows a different side of Crowded House and the musicians that played with them over the years.
We’re especially keen to find old audio and footage from interviews, film rushes and outtakes, behind-the-scenes clips, and unaired gems. We are also interested in concert footage prior to 1997.
