“This was recorded during the Together Alone sessions at Karekare Beach with Youth producing. The four of us, Mark, Paul, Nick and I all sat ‘round, Mark and I sitting outside the glass doors with our guitars, Paul in the lounge room with the drums and Nick stuck up in the bedroom there right next to his bass amp, the way he liked it. This was one of the first songs we recorded, actually, and I think a very worthy song.
Probably should have made the album at the time. Don’t really know why it didn’t except we had a lot of songs - nineteen in all. Perhaps I was a little sheepish about the title being so direct but really, no particular reason it didn’t make Together Alone.
One memory of this session was Nick recording the bass part later on that night and Youth just repeating over and over to him, ‘Stay on one string, man.’”
