Some Greater Plan
Hi there good people,
We are regrouping in London before our concert run of UK, Ireland and Europe dates. The US tour just completed was a wonderful experience from St Augustine to Paso Robles... as far as you could travel in that most vast of countries.
We continue to get better on stage, a trust and freedom developing between us that enables us to get off the script in ever more colourful ways. That’s always been our modus operandi, but only comes about naturally when audiences give us license and we hit the power band after many shows with sharpened focus on the micro measures of rhythm and harmony.
We have dropped our new video for Some Greater Plan (for Claire). It is somewhat of a homage to my dad, Richard Finn, and a wartime romance he wrote about in his diary. In a broader sense, it’s referring to the idea that each time we gather for music, we conjure up the spirits of those who went before and revitalise our will to express love and look forward. That’s the magical gift of music. I’m so grateful to you for tuning in and sharing that feeling.
Liam will be opening these upcoming shows in his own inimitable style with humour, melody and mayhem. We always find the audience leaning forward and fully engaged after his flights of fancy. Here’s another taste of that spirit from his Hyperverse collection.
Really looking forward to sharing some beautiful hours with you in the coming weeks... lucky bastards we are!
Kindness and respect
Neil
Martin Phillipps
Very sad to hear of Martin Phillipps’ death. He was a good friend, wonderful musician and one of NZ’s greatest songwriters. A true original, fascinated by and devoted to the magic and mystery of music. His recent work was as good as anything he’s done. Martin’s songs live on with his spirit.
Our sympathies go out to his family and loved ones.

Something to give us hope
Here’s something to give us hope... Tinariwen live from Roundhead Studios: Infinity Sessions.
Amazing!
Gravity Stairs - Out Now
I am delighted to have our new record Gravity Stairs dropping today. It’s been wrapped in swaddling clothes and feeding formula for months but now will have to fend for itself and walk on its own two feet.
We have been rehearsing in NYC, appearing on TV… Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow night, the CBS morning news on Sat Jun 15 and a live one yesterday on ABC Kelly and Mark show.
The new songs are super fun to play and the tour is shaping up to be a celebration of all things real and right and true, not the least your voices added to the music… can’t wait to see you.
In the meantime we have a lovely new video for The Howl shot on Te Henga beach with a wolfman and sword wielding goddess.
Go well, spread the word! Gravity Stairs!
Love
Neil

Infinity Sessions
We are excited to announce a special streaming event at Roundhead Studios this coming Friday 10th May from 7:45pm NZDT, a gathering of great artists currently working in our studio. It will be a sharing of songs and tall tales with strings attached.
Some will remember a month-long season of Infinity Sessions from August 2017 which led to the live recording of Neil Finn’s Out Of Silence album.
The INFINITY SESSIONS return bigger, brighter and for the long run. Our opening night will feature Neil Finn, Jimmy Barnes, Finn Andrews, Reb Fountain, Charlie Collins and brilliant arranger Victoria Kelly who has prepared strings for the occasion. The night will kick off with a special performance from LEAO as we settle into proceedings. Don’t miss it!

Let The Show Begin
So much going on... carousing, cavorting, canoodling, carolling, conversing, carrying on... I can hardly keep track, but the band above seem ready and willing to take it onwards. Really excited to play these new songs for you and revisit the old faves with fresh energy and purpose. We have things up our sleeve, someone put peas under the mattress and we are short of sleep. That just proves we are ready to become princesses for you. In the meantime, Liam takes the stage at Zebulon in LA this Sunday with a sensational new show…looking forward to that!
What else? Just hope, that's all, just hope.
See you soon

North American Tour and Teenage Summer single
"Teenage Summer" brims with sparkling vocal harmonies and a longing for connection. Neil Finn imagined the song during the most isolated parts of the Covid lockdown, but instead of melancholy, it has a big, empathetic heart and hope to spare.
“It’s about trying to achieve some reality and being aware that connection is hard to make,” he says. “And even before Covid, it was hard to find closeness to people. That became particularly acute afterward.”

Gravity Stairs - new album, single & London show
Well good people, I haven’t been as prolific with newsy letters as I would have liked, but was buried in record making for the last little while.
Now, however, there are just too many events to track, to report on, to illuminate. All I can say is a welcoming single Oh Hi to all the people, children and the young of heart that put me back together and keep me compelled. I love music, it can heal and bring back memory long buried.
There is a video with my cut out head planted on a young fella with some hot moves. I’ll post you the demo for that idea when I get home from London. I was here with my old friend Nick playing live and only live with an orchestra on the BBC and over brunch on Channel 4. We have the album in production now. It’s going to be a beautiful record to play live. I hope you can join us at some point.
I thank you for your attention and affection.
Love
Neil
