Some Greater Plan (for Claire)
Neil Finn / Tim Finn

Your life is just beginning
The war it never ends
Here’s a reminder
We can look forward again
The spark is returning
We made eyes across the room
You are gorgeous and absurd
Tell me have you heard the word
Resurrection

We gave up on the world somehow
Now we better start believing
If all that we can do
Is fill the room
With a song of love
I’m there if you want
To feel a part of some greater plan
Do you want to heal the heart
Of this broken man?

You’ll never be lonely again
Would you like to say yes
We’ll clean up the mess
Sad children of the earth
Tell me have you heard the word
Revolution

We gave up on the world somehow
Now we better start believing
If all that we can do
Is fill the room
With a song of love
I’ll sing it if you want
To feel a part
Of some greater plan
Do you want to heal the heart
Of this broken man?

Do you want, do you want, do you want
Do you want, do you want
do you want, do you want
Do you want to heal the heart
Of this broken man?

Song appears on:

Crowded House - Gravity Stairs (2024 album)

'Some Greater Plan' was written by Neil and brother Tim. They borrowed from their father Richard's war diary, drawing on a memory of a whirlwind Italian romance.

It was always a thing that came up. Dad would have this wistful look in his eye when he would talk about Italy.
— Neil Finn, 2024
The song is also about the healing power of music, singing and joining together. It’s nice to have a bit of history to add to the current day.
— Neil Finn, Rock Cellar Magazine, September 2024
