Dave Dobbyn with Neil Finn, Tim Finn & Emma Paki in Concert, 1994
We’ve been wanting to share this television special with you for a while. In 1994, one of NZ’s most treasured songwriters and performers, Dave Dobbyn, teamed with guests Neil Finn, Tim Finn and Emma Paki for a live presentation of his album Twist. The album was produced by Neil and is a true New Zealand classic.
Thanks to NZ On Screen for bringing this out of the archives. It’s divided into five clips.

Here’s the original setlist, though there were some changes in the end:
Dunedin
Neil played Dunedin’s Regent Theatre last night in a free show sponsored by iHeartRadioNZ and 2Degrees. See some great photos from Steve Dykes Photography on the Radio Hauraki website.
Here’s the Dunedin setlist. Neil also sang “Addicted” from the Try Whistling This album.
With support from Bic Runga, Neil and his band perform at Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena tonight. This is the final concert of Neil’s Dizzy Heights world tour!
Don’t Dream It’s Over (live) – Humanitarian Aid
I have been distressed to see so many innocent people become victims of war in Gaza and Syria. A few weeks ago I received a message from a man on Twitter drawing my attention to the lyrics of Don’t Dream It’s Over and how fitting the sentiments were in relation to these people’s suffering. It got me thinking and I took that as a timely cue to put my song to work for a year to assist in humanitarian aid for those affected. It seems like the least I can do. That song has been good to me and I hope it can do some good for others for a while.
This is a live version of the song recorded and filmed on my last tour. I edited the video myself. If you wish to download the song for NZD $2 or more we will ensure the money gets to Kia Ora Gaza and The Red Crescent Appeal for Syria. I have researched the many worthy organisations that are working in these places and chosen these two that I believe to be effective and focused.
Thank you.
Neil
Neil talks to Radio New Zealand’s Afternoons host Simon Mercep about this release:
Last rites for the album?

Wellington 19-9-14
Wellington’s audience last night voted between “Recluse” and “Animal Vs Human”… and Recluse lost!
Tonight, Neil and band, with support from Bic Runga, will be at Auckland’s Powerstation.

Napier and Wellington

Neil played Napier Municipal Theatre last night in the first concert on the New Zealand tour. A beautiful set from Bic Runga and a guest pianist (what was his name again?) and then two and a half hours of Neil and his band. Some surprises… who would have thought you could cross “Love This Life” with “Eye of the Tiger”?!
Tonight – Wellington Opera House!

My Favourite Album – podcast part 2
In the second part of Jeremy Dylan’s My Favourite Album chat with Neil Finn, they delve into David Bowie’s “Hunky Dory” and Radiohead’s “In Rainbows”, try to resolve the Bowie vs. Bowie debate [Editor’s note: It’s definitely Bo-wie], why Bowie is as important to Neil as the Beatles, what Radiohead’s favorite card game is, the time and place to be methodical in rock’n’roll and Neil reveals his next musical project.
One of the best interviews we’ve heard in a while.
